How many laser hair removal sessions do you need?
Most areas take 6 to 8 laser hair removal sessions, 4 to 8 weeks apart. The laser only works on hair in its growth phase, and only some hair is growing at a time, so each visit treats a new group. At Magic FemTouch MedSpa in Oak Lawn, your provider gives you the number for your area at the consult.

Why laser hair removal takes a series
Hair grows in cycles: growing, resting and shedding. The laser heats the pigment in the root, and that only works while a hair is growing.
At any time, only some of the hair in an area is growing. One session treats those hairs. The next session, weeks later, treats the hairs that have started growing since. That is why most areas take 6 to 8 sessions.
How many laser hair removal sessions by area
These are typical ranges, not promises. Your provider gives you a number for each area at the consult.
| Area | Typical sessions | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Face and upper lip | 6 to 8, sometimes more | Face hair is often finer and tied to hormones, so it can take longer. |
| Underarms | 6 to 8 | Hair is often dark and coarse, which suits laser. |
| Bikini and Brazilian | 6 to 8 | Hair is often dark and coarse, which suits laser. |
| Legs and arms | 6 to 8 | Larger areas, so each visit takes longer. |
| Back, chest and beard line (men) | 6 to 8, sometimes more | Dense hair can sit at the high end of the range. |
Sessions are usually 4 to 8 weeks apart. Your provider sets the spacing for each area.

What changes your number of sessions
- Hair color: laser finds dark hair most easily. Blonde, gray, white and red hair usually respond less.
- Hair thickness: coarse hair often clears faster than fine hair.
- Skin type: settings are chosen for your skin. See laser hair removal for dark skin.
- Hormones: PCOS and other hormone changes can grow new hair, so touch-ups may be needed.
- Keeping to the plan: waxing or plucking between sessions, or long gaps, slow things down.

What changes from session to session
- 1After each session
Treated hair sheds over one to three weeks. It can look like regrowth while it pushes out.
- 2Early sessions
Regrowth slows down, and smooth patches last longer between visits.
- 3Later sessions
Less hair grows back, and what does is often finer. You shave far less often.
- 4After the series
Some people come back for a touch-up now and then, for a few hairs that return.
Is laser hair removal permanent?
It is permanent hair reduction, not removal. Most treated hair does not grow back, and what does is often finer and lighter. No clinic can promise that every hair is gone.
Is hair gone forever after laser?
Most of it, for most people. A few hairs can return over the years, and hormone changes can wake up new ones. A touch-up session handles those.
Will Brazilian laser remove hair completely?
It reduces it a lot, but expect a few stray hairs. Dark, coarse bikini hair tends to respond well to laser.
How long does laser hair removal last?
The reduction is long term. Most hair the laser treats in its growth phase does not grow back. What can change is your hormones. Pregnancy, PCOS or menopause can grow new hair in an area you treated.
That is why some people book a touch-up later. Your provider tells you when one makes sense. To plan the full cost, see what sets the cost of a laser series.

Questions
Laser session questions
How far apart are laser hair removal sessions?
Usually 4 to 8 weeks, by area. Face hair grows back faster, so face sessions sit at the shorter end. Your provider sets the spacing for each area.
Can I have laser sessions closer together to finish faster?
It does not help. Hair needs time to move into its growth phase, so sessions booked too close reach fewer new hairs. Keep to the spacing your provider sets.
What if I miss a laser session?
Book the next one as soon as you can. A few extra weeks will not undo your progress. Shave in between, and do not wax or pluck.
Do men need more laser sessions than women?
Sometimes, for the beard line, chest and back. That hair is often dense and tied to hormones. Your provider gives you the number for each area at the consult.
How many times do you have to laser before hair stops growing?
Most areas take 6 to 8 sessions before regrowth is sparse. Some areas, like the face, can take more. Hair is reduced, not gone for good, so a touch-up may help later.
