How deep does microneedling go?
Depth is set area by area. Thin skin, like under the eyes and on the forehead, usually gets the gentlest settings. Acne scars on the cheeks can take deeper passes.
Ask your provider what depth they plan for each area before the pen starts. If you want to stay gentle, say so.
How many microneedling sessions will I need?
Most people need a series, a few weeks apart. Deeper acne scars take more sessions than light texture. Your skin keeps changing between sessions, so judge the result over a few months.

Microneedling aftercare: the first week
- For the first day, skip makeup, workouts and swimming.
- Wash with lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser.
- For the rest of the week, skip retinol, acids and scrubs.
- Wear sunscreen every day.

Who should wait for microneedling
Tell your provider first, and you may need to wait, if any of these apply:
- You have active breakouts, a rash or a cold sore on the area.
- You took isotretinoin, a prescription acne pill, in the last six months.
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
