Does Moxi or BBL hurt, and is it safe for my skin tone?

01

Is it safe for my skin tone?

Laser and light work on pigment, so your skin type and recent sun matter. Your provider checks both at the consult and sets the treatment for your skin. A fresh tan means waiting.

02

Does it hurt?

BBL feels like quick, warm snaps, like a rubber band. Moxi feels warm and prickly as the handpiece moves. Ask about numbing at your consult.

03

How much does it cost?

It depends on whether you need Moxi, BBL or both, and how many sessions. It is priced at your consult.

Moxi laser for tone and texture

Moxi is a gentle laser skin resurfacing treatment. It suits early sun damage, dull skin and uneven texture. Some people call it a laser facial.

After a session, your skin looks pink and feels warm. For a few days it can feel like fine sandpaper as treated skin flakes away. Plans are a short series, a few weeks apart.

BBL laser for brown spots and redness

BBL stands for BroadBand Light. It is a type of IPL, or intense pulsed light. It targets brown spots, sun damage and redness. People also call it a BBL photofacial or an IPL photofacial.

Brown spots turn darker for a few days, then flake off over about a week. Here, BBL means a skin treatment. It has nothing to do with the body surgery that shares the letters.

When to start Moxi or BBL

Laser and light need skin that has not been in the sun. Fall through spring is the easiest time for a series. Treated skin has to stay out of the sun between sessions.

Wear sunscreen every day during your series. A recent tan means waiting before your first session.

Who should wait before Moxi or BBL

Tell your provider first, and wait, if any of these apply:

  • You have a tan or a sunburn, or used self-tanner in the last two weeks.
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • You take a medicine that makes you sun-sensitive, or took isotretinoin in the last six months.
  • You have an active cold sore or rash on the area.

Melasma needs extra care, because light and heat can make it darker. See the gentler options for melasma.

Moxi and BBL aftercare

  • Wear SPF 30 or higher every day, and stay out of direct sun while you heal.
  • Use a gentle cleanser and moisturizer. Skip retinol and acids until your provider says you can.
  • Let dark spots and rough skin flake off on their own. Don't pick or scrub.
  • Makeup can usually go on the next day.

Call us if you see blisters, crusting or redness that gets worse after the first day.

Questions

Moxi and BBL questions

Is BBL the same as IPL?

BBL is a type of IPL, or intense pulsed light. It uses broad light to target brown spots and redness. The name stands for BroadBand Light.

Is BBL the same as a Brazilian butt lift?

No. At a med spa, BBL means BroadBand Light, a light treatment for the skin. It involves no surgery and no needles.

How much downtime is there after Moxi?

Skin looks pink and feels warm for a few hours. For a few days it can feel rough, like fine sandpaper, as treated skin flakes away. Most people wear makeup the next day.

Can you do Moxi and BBL together?

Some plans pair them in one visit, one after the other. That works on spots, redness and texture at once. Ask at your skin check whether that suits your skin.

How many Moxi or BBL sessions will I need?

Most plans are a short series, a few weeks apart. Your provider gives you the number at the consult. Many people book one session a year after that to keep up with new sun damage.

Does BBL hurt?

Most people describe each pulse as a quick, warm snap, like a rubber band. Areas over bone feel stronger. The warmth fades within a few hours.

Can Moxi help with melasma?

Melasma needs a careful plan, because heat and light can make it darker. Your provider decides whether a gentle setting, a mild peel or another option suits your skin. Daily sunscreen matters as much as any treatment.
