What sets the cost of a HydraFacialWhat happens during a HydraFacial
Our menu lists the HydraFacial as cleanse, exfoliate, extract, hydrate and protect with antioxidants. Here is what that feels like.
- 1Skin check
Your provider looks at your skin and asks what you use at home. Makeup comes off.
- 2Cleanse and exfoliate
The tip cleans your skin and lifts off dead skin. A mild solution loosens what sits in your pores.
- 3Extract
Gentle suction pulls oil and buildup out of your pores. It feels like a light pull, with no squeezing.
- 4Hydrate and protect
The tip leaves a serum with antioxidants on your skin. Sunscreen goes on last.

Who is a HydraFacial good for?
Most skin types, including oily, dry and combination skin. Many people with sensitive skin choose it, because there is no squeezing. It suits clogged pores, dry patches and skin that looks dull.
Is it good for aging skin? It adds moisture, so fine, dry lines can look softer for a while. It does not change deeper lines or dark spots. For those, a chemical peel or microneedling does more.
Wait if you have a sunburn, a rash, a cold sore or a painful cystic breakout. Tell your provider if you take isotretinoin or use a prescription retinoid.

HydraFacial vs. a classic facial
| HydraFacial | Classic facial | |
|---|---|---|
| How it works | A handheld tip cleans, exfoliates, uses suction and applies serum | Cleanse, exfoliation, mask and moisturizer by hand |
| Pores | Suction clears them, with no squeezing | Cleared by hand if you book the facial with extractions |
| Time on our menu | About 1 hour | About 1 hour |
| After | Pink for an hour or so, if at all | Pink for a few hours if extractions are done |

HydraFacial or chemical peel?
A HydraFacial cleans out pores and adds moisture, with nothing to peel. A chemical peel goes deeper on dark spots, acne marks and uneven tone, with a few days of flaking.
| HydraFacial | Chemical peel | |
|---|---|---|
| How it works | A handheld tip cleans, exfoliates, clears pores with suction and hydrates | An acid solution loosens the outer layer of skin, which sheds over a few days |
| Good for | Clogged pores, dryness, dull skin before an event | Dark spots, uneven tone, breakouts, fine lines |
| The days after | Most people go back to their day | Light peels flake for a few days |
| How often | About once a month | Every few weeks for light peels, as a series |

Pick by your skin.
- Oily or breakout-prone: a salicylic peel works inside the pore. A HydraFacial clears pores with less irritation.
- Dry or dehydrated: a HydraFacial adds moisture.
- Sensitive: a HydraFacial or a mild lactic peel.
- Sun spots and dark marks: a chemical peel or a VI Peel.
Doing both. Some people alternate: a peel one month for spots, a HydraFacial the next to keep pores clear. Don't do both on the same day. Leave a week or two between them, and book a peel at least a week before a big event.

How to prepare for a HydraFacial
- Stop retinol and exfoliating acids two or three days before.
- Skip waxing or threading on your face for about a week before.
- Come without a sunburn. If your skin is peeling from the sun, move your visit.
- Makeup is fine. It comes off first.
Tell your provider about any new medicine or skin allergies.

Questions
HydraFacial questions
How long does a HydraFacial take?
About an hour on our menu. That includes a skin check before and sunscreen at the end.
Is there downtime after a HydraFacial?
Most people go straight back to work or plans. Skin may look pink for an hour or so. Skip heavy makeup, workouts and saunas for the rest of the day.
What are the downsides of a HydraFacial?
The results are short-term, so most people come back every month or so. It does little for deep lines, pitted scars or stubborn dark spots. Some people get a little redness or react to a serum, so tell your provider about allergies.
Is a HydraFacial good for aging skin?
It helps with dryness and dullness, which can make fine lines look softer for a while. It does not change deeper lines. For those, ask about microneedling, a peel or wrinkle relaxers.
Is a HydraFacial or a chemical peel better for acne?
For active breakouts, a salicylic peel often does more, because the acid works inside the pore. A HydraFacial helps by clearing clogged pores with little irritation. Many people with acne-prone skin use both, on different visits.
Can I get a HydraFacial and a chemical peel on the same day?
Not usually. Both exfoliate, and doing them together can irritate the skin. Leave a week or two between them, or follow your provider's advice.
Which is better before an event, a HydraFacial or a peel?
A HydraFacial, for most people. There is usually nothing to peel, so skin looks calm within a day. A peel needs about a week to finish flaking, so book it well ahead.
What is the difference between a HydraFacial and microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion buffs off dead skin with a textured tip and light suction, so it suits rough texture. A HydraFacial uses a liquid solution and suction to clean out pores. Then it leaves a hydrating serum on the skin.
