Botox Aftercare and Your First Appointment

First time, no guessing.

Botox aftercare is short. Stay upright for a few hours and skip hard workouts for the day. Here is how a first visit goes, how to get ready, and what to skip after.

What should you do after Botox?

Good Botox aftercare is simple. Stay upright for about four hours, and don't rub or press the treated spots. Skip hard workouts, saunas and hot yoga for the rest of the day. At Magic FemTouch MedSpa in Oak Lawn, your injector goes over the rules for your areas before you leave.

What to expect at your first Botox appointment

  1. 1
    Consult

Your injector asks about your health, medicines, allergies and any events coming up. Then they answer your questions.

  2. 2
    Map the areas

You frown and raise your brows while your injector watches the muscles. They mark the spots and go over the dose.

  3. 3
    The injections

A few quick pinches with a fine needle. Each area takes a few minutes.

  4. 4
    The two-week check

The full effect shows at about two weeks. Ask about a check-in then.

How to prepare for your first Botox visit

  • Book at least two weeks before a wedding, photos or a trip.
  • Bring a list of your medicines and supplements.
  • If your doctor agrees, skip aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil and alcohol for a day or two before. This can lower the chance of a bruise.
  • Tell your injector if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Come with clean skin, or plan a few minutes to take makeup off.

Don't stop a prescribed medicine without asking your doctor.

First time Botox: how to keep it natural

Many people start with one or two areas to see how their face responds.

Tell your injector if you want to keep some movement. A lighter first dose can be added to later. Once it is in, it can't be taken out, so it wears off on its own.

Ask anything: the product, the dose, and what they would change next time. See how Botox, Dysport and Xeomin differ and what sets the cost of Botox.

When to call after Botox

A mild headache on the first day can happen and usually passes. Call us at (708) 529-7655 if an eyelid or brow droops, or a headache does not go away.

Get emergency care right away for trouble breathing, swallowing or speaking. This is very rare.

Consult first. Walk-ins welcome.

Your first visit starts with a consult. Nothing is injected until your questions are answered.

Questions

Botox aftercare questions

Can I work out after Botox?

Wait until the next day for hard workouts, hot yoga or anything that makes you sweat a lot. A gentle walk is fine. Your injector may give you a different rule for your areas.

When can I get a facial after Botox?

Ask your injector, because advice differs. Many suggest waiting at least a few days, and some say two weeks, before a facial, peel or microneedling on the treated area. Pressing and rubbing in the first hours can move the product.

Can I drink alcohol after Botox?

Skip alcohol for the rest of the day if you can. Alcohol can make a bruise more likely. It does not change how well the treatment works.

Who should not get Botox?

Wait if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Tell your injector about any nerve or muscle condition, any allergies and all your medicines. They check all of this at the consult.

Does Botox hurt?

Most people feel a few quick pinches. The needle is very fine, and each area takes a few minutes. Ask your injector what they use to keep you comfortable.

When can I wear makeup after Botox?

Usually after a few hours. Use a light touch and clean brushes, and don't rub the injection spots.
